Introduction

Hi! My name is Cassandra Ferreira and I am a third year political studies student at Queen’s University. When I am not at school, I like spending time with friends and family in my hometown of Cambridge, Ontario.

EMPR 240 will be my first employment relations course at Queen’s, and I am quite excited! A few of the modules definitely popped out at me, and look quite interesting. After my undergraduate degree in politics I hope to pursue law school, so a course like this is certainly interesting to me.

My first job was at a family run golf course. Although I started out by washing dishes and helping in the kitchen (I wasn’t old enough to serve), I soon realized that I wanted to be on the customer service side of the business. Once I got SmartServe certified, I began serving and bartending, and I enjoyed this immensely. This job taught me a lot about both the food and customer service industries, and gave me the tools to go on and work in various customer service positions throughout the years.

Thanks for getting to know me, Im looking forward to a great semester!

  2. Hey Cassandra,

I see we have something in common, I am a third year Econ major, who is also looking to pursue law school later on. I am most interested in pursuing a career in corporate law since I find mergers and acquisitions of firms to be on the rise. What about you? which field of law do you see yourself in?

Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

    Cheers,

  3. Hey Cassandra,

Just like you, this is my first EMPR online course ever. I was hesitant at first, but after going through the entire syllabus and separate modules, I became way more interested in the subject matter of EMPR 240. I saw that you were interested in going to law school, therefore my question would be “do you see yourself going to law school in Canada or outside of the country?”. I only ask this because I myself am also very interested in pursuing a law school degree, however I am very interested in looking at schools abroad due to my undergraduate Politics background. Therefore, I was wondering what your perspective on that idea would be.

Thanks for the great blog post,

  4. Hi Cassandra

Nice to meet you, I am also a third year student at Queens. I hope you go on to pursue law school! Given that this is your first employment relations course, you should check out EMPR210 as it is on employment law. I took it last term and it was very interesting.

Additionally I started working at a family restaurant in the summers when I was 13-14. Where abouts have you worked? How old were you when you started working?

    Thanks,

    Veronica
